Abu Dhabi chooses Italian excellence: the Mina Zayed Tunnel protected by Tema Sistemi's innovative water mist system

To ensure maximum fire protection along the entire infrastructure, Aquatech®, the high-pressure water mist system designed and manufactured by Tema Sistemi SpA, was chosen.

This advanced technology enables rapid and extremely effective action in the event of a fire, ensuring immediate cooling and timely extinguishment of the flames.

An additional strength of the system is its human safety: the water mist delivered is not harmful and can be activated even in the presence of people inside the tunnel, ensuring protection without compromising the safety of the occupants.

In addition, the system is fully integrated with the fire detection system, which enables real-time monitoring of rising temperatures and precise location of the exact spot of the event. Once the emergency is detected, the Aquatech system is automatically activated, taking action not only on the affected area, but also on adjacent areas, in order to quickly contain the fire and prevent its spread.

The entire tunnel was protected by a total of 2,659 Aquatech model TS-123 nozzles, custom-designed and prototyped for this specific application.
Each element was designed to meet the extreme conditions and continuous protection needs unique to such a complex infrastructure.

The system is capable of delivering up to 3,000 liters per minute, thanks to 24 pumps divided into 3 pumping groups, ensuring maximum efficiency. Completing the system are a booster pump and a compensation unit, designed to be mutually redundant, ensuring operational continuity even if one of the main components fails.

The system is managed by 1 cabinet installed in the pump room with PLC cabinet equipped with a touch HMI panel through which the operating states of the system devices can be monitored in real time.
