Water Mist

Water mist fire extinguishing systems are 100% eco-friendly water mist systems designed to reduce water consumption, damage to the environment as well as extinguishing and restoration times.

Aquatech®: the power of a water drop

Aquatech® is our innovative water mist system that intelligently uses the extreme extinguishing power of the most natural element that exists: water.

The Aquatech® water mist uses the same methodology as the well-known sprinkler systems, enhancing their performance. Thanks to its advanced atomised water generation process, it is able to reach the peak of extinguishing power.

The atomised water developed by the Aquatech® water mist fire system looks like a very fine mist to the human eye, as it is the result of splitting individual water droplets into millions of significantly smaller units (measuring less than 50 microns).

The advanced technology of the Aquatech® nozzles, the smallest on the market, enables the atomized water to be delivered at very high speed directly onto the fire spot, even in the presence of human beings, drastically reducing water consumption (around 90% less than traditional systems) and restoration times, and eliminating environmental damage.

How it works

Aquatech® is able to extinguish the most severe fires thanks to the generation of a turbulent motion nebulization of tiny directional water droplets.

The micro-drops of water produced by water mist fire prevention systems, before reaching the fire, transform into steam, which expands, depriving the fire of the oxygen necessary to sustain combustion, thus effectively suffocating the fire.

The removal of oxygen from the combustion occurs only in the immediate vicinity of the fire bed. In all other areas of the environment the percentage of oxygen remains unchanged, allowing normal breathing of the people present. Furthermore, the sudden change of state from water to steam allows a high reduction in heat and a drastic decrease in temperatures, preventing the self-feeding of the fire itself.

The micro-drops of water absorb water-soluble gases and fumes on their way to the fire, consequently the water particles become heavier and slide downwards; this phenomenon facilitates the evacuation and survival of people, ensuring greater breathability.

Aquatech® is a Tema Sistemi exclusive, a leading manufacturer of water mist systems in Italy and worldwide. Capable of extinguishing fires very quickly, it guarantees extremely effective protection both as volumetric and as local protection.

Parts

  • Aquatech® nozzles (open or with thermosensitive bulb);
  • “Twin-fluid” mixing valves
  • Pressurization system with Pump Unit (Aquatech® GAP), which can be built on a Skid unit composed of main electric pumps, reserving pumps and jockey pump and equipped with an electrical panel with PLC enabling the automation of the entire system.
  • Pressurization system with Cylinder Banks (Aquatech® GAB), which can be built on a Skid unit composed of water storage cylinders and cylinders pressurized with nitrogen gas that allows the atomization of the water drops. Aquatech® Plus can be powered either with a cylinder of propellant nitrogen gas and a tank customizable in size and shape containing a mixture of water and wetting agent or by a pumping group with a special proportioner capable of ensuring the correct mixing of water and additive.
  • Stainless steel pipes and fittings

FAQ

How does the Aquatech® system extinguish a fire without damaging the surrounding environment

+

The system breaks water into millions of extremely small droplets, measuring less than 50 microns, to create a very
fine, high-speed atomised mist. Before reaching the flames, the micro-droplets turn into steam. This steam expands and
deprives the fire of the oxygen it needs, smothering the flames. As a result, water consumption is drastically reduced -
by around 90% compared with traditional systems - while helping to prevent damage to the protected spaces.

Is the Aquatech® water mist system safe when people are present?

+

Yes. Discharge can take place safely even when people are present. The oxygen displacement caused by the
expansion of steam occurs only in the immediate area around the fire. In the rest of the room, the oxygen level remains
unchanged, allowing normal breathing. The micro-droplets also absorb soluble gases and smoke, carrying them
downwards and improving breathability and visibility during evacuation.

Does the system require airtightness or room sealing?

+

No. One of the certified advantages of the Aquatech® system is that room sealing is not required. The system provides
highly effective protection both for full-room applications and for localised protection.

What pressurisation systems and configurations are available for Aquatech®?

+

The system can be configured with two main skid-mounted pressurisation stations: the Pumping Unit (Aquatech® GAP),
consisting of electric pumps - main, standby and jockey pumps - and an electrical panel with PLC automation; or the
Cylinder Unit (Aquatech® GAB), consisting of water storage cylinders and nitrogen-pressurised cylinders.
